What was the purpose of the description of 3rd expedition's family life and why did author mention about it?

The hallucinations which were about families of the Earth Men were the reason why the 3rd Expedition had failed. All the Earth Men in the expedition felt relieved as they met their close acquaintancesv in Mars. They did not doubt their relationships. As the result, the fine Earth Men in 3rd Expedition were killed. On pg 61, it says "They say childhood memories are the clearest." This quote shows why the author metioned the hallucination about the hometown and the close aquaintance. Martians were sure that they would be able to kill the Earth Men by using hallucination about their childhood. I also think that this event kind of shows we accept our childhood as the clearst memory.
I have different thgought about this quesition. At the first and second expedition, Martian killed people by theirselve. so that they canged way to kill because their stagnation were exposed. They hide their cultures and kill the earth people. It is not good to exposed your stagnation to other people. they might have big changed. Earth people want to find other planet and have conversation with them but Martian think we are evil. so it is hard to connet between Earth people and Martians.
I think Maritian hate Earth people At pg40."Don't leave on the earth!" it's same as when japan destoryed they will come to korea. it's like same way we hate each others. ED
The Martians made hallucinations of the crew's family because the family is the most important thing of a human. The crews lowered their guard as soon as they met their family except for Captain Black because for a person , family is a thing that can be trusted in all time and is very important. "In a very clever way , so we would be taken off guard" Is dhowing how martians knew the mind of human being and planned something very cunning.
I agree with Hyung Hoon, The martian''s goal was to kill the human beings on Mars. So, to kill them, they made a hallucination of their families, so that they won't kill the martians, and just follow their family. As those men from the third expedition saw their loved ones, they felt so happy and just forgot about their mission. On page 55 Lustig says "don't be too hard on them. Those were all old relatives and friends" which indicates that the ones they meed are dead.
